Charles Leclerc sits out Imola media duties due to illness
Ferrari Confident Star Driver Will Return for Practice Sessions on Friday
IMOLA, Italy — Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc was absent from Thursday's media day ahead of the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix after falling ill, but the team expects him to be back in action on Friday for practice sessions.
"Charles is feeling unwell and will not be coming to the track today," a Ferrari spokesperson confirmed. "He will rest and focus on recovering, and we expect him to be in the car tomorrow."
Formula 1 Regulations and Prioritizing Health
Per Formula 1 regulations, drivers are required to attend the circuit on Thursdays during race weekends to fulfill media obligations and participate in engineering meetings. However, it's not uncommon for drivers to skip these duties in the event of illness to prioritize their health ahead of the more physically demanding race activities.
A Challenging Season for Leclerc
Leclerc, who has faced a challenging start to the season, currently stands fifth in the drivers' championship. His best result so far has been a third-place podium finish in Saudi Arabia, though Ferrari's recent struggles have seen him fall outside contention in several races. At the Miami Grand Prix two weeks ago, Leclerc finished a disappointing seventh, with much of the post-race discussion focusing on team orders that required him to swap positions twice with teammate Lewis Hamilton.
Imola: A Pivotal Weekend for Ferrari
This weekend's Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix marks a pivotal moment for Ferrari as the first of two races on Italian soil this season. The team will be eager to deliver a strong performance in front of their passionate home crowd at Imola.
Leclerc’s return to action on Friday will be critical as Ferrari continues its pursuit of improvement in a season that has yet to meet their expectations. Fans will be hoping their leader is ready to mount a charge when the iconic Scuderia takes to its home track.
