Red Bull Racing Secures Max Verstappen Through 2026

Red Bull Racing has secured the services of four-time defending Formula 1 champion Max Verstappen through at least the 2026 season, team adviser Helmut Marko confirmed on Monday. The announcement comes amid speculation of interest from rival team Mercedes, sparking discussion on the long-term rivalry between the two F1 powerhouses.

Reports had surfaced, including from RS, suggesting Verstappen could exercise an exit clause within his Red Bull contract at the end of the current season. The clause reportedly stipulated that Verstappen would be free to leave the team if he were fourth or lower in the drivers' championship standings as of the Hungarian Grand Prix, set to take place this Sunday. However, the Dutchman's solid performance this season has rendered the clause irrelevant. Following last weekend’s Belgian Grand Prix, Verstappen occupies third place in the championship standings, a comfortable 28 points ahead of fourth-place contender George Russell. This gap ensures Verstappen cannot fall to fourth before the Hungarian GP.

Helmut Marko confirmed Verstappen’s long-term commitment in an interview with German outlet Sport.De, saying, "Yes, I can confirm that Max Verstappen will drive for Red Bull in 2026."

Rumors of Mercedes' Interest

Despite rumors of Mercedes exploring the possibility of recruiting Verstappen, the Dutch driver appears firmly committed to Red Bull. Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff has yet to deny his potential interest in Verstappen, who has been the winningest F1 driver since claiming his first championship title in 2021. Currently, Mercedes is fielding George Russell alongside young talent Kimi Antonelli, with many speculating the team may be preparing for future changes to its driver lineup.

Red Bull’s Recent Management Changes

This development follows a significant shake-up at Red Bull Racing earlier this month, when the team abruptly dismissed longtime team principal Christian Horner and replaced him with Laurent Mekies. Concerned fans questioned whether the management changes could impact Verstappen's loyalty to the team, but his agent quickly reassured Dutch media that Verstappen remained committed to Red Bull despite the change at the helm.

Verstappen’s Role in Red Bull’s Quest for Dominance

As the championship battle intensifies, Verstappen looks set to continue as the cornerstone of Red Bull's quest for further dominance in Formula 1. His confirmed future with the team ensures stability for Red Bull as it progresses toward the challenges of the 2026 season and beyond.
