Formula 1 Announces 2026 Preseason Testing Schedule

Formula 1 has officially announced the schedule for its 2026 preseason testing, featuring 10 days across two iconic venues: the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in Spain and the Bahrain International Circuit.

A Season of Change: Rule Overhauls and Grid Expansion

The 2026 season promises to be a turning point for the sport, with groundbreaking rule changes set to overhaul both aerodynamics and engine specifications. These sweeping reforms mean every team will debut completely redesigned cars, setting the stage for intense development battles during the preseason. Adding to the excitement, F1 will expand its grid from 10 teams to 11, with the highly anticipated entry of American manufacturer Cadillac.

Preseason Testing Outline

The preseason will kick off with a private test session in Barcelona, running from January 26-30 at the site of the Spanish Grand Prix. This session, organized independently by the teams in collaboration with the Spanish circuit rather than Formula 1 or the FIA, will not be broadcast, and no live timing data will be made available. Designed to allow teams to fine-tune their brand-new cars out of the public spotlight, the Barcelona test prioritizes behind-the-scenes troubleshooting.

Attention will then shift to Bahrain, which will host two rounds of public testing from February 11-13 and February 18-20. These sessions, held under the usual F1 preseason protocols, will be broadcasted, offering fans their first glimpse of the next-generation machinery in competitive conditions.

The highly anticipated 2026 Formula 1 season will officially begin with the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne on March 8.

Key Developments for the 2026 Season

In addition to Cadillac’s debut, 2026 will also mark the arrival of Audi as a power unit manufacturer. The German automotive giant is nearing completion of its acquisition of the Sauber team, laying the foundation for its presence on the grid.

Fans can expect a record-breaking 24 races during the 2026 season, the maximum allowed under current regulations. As part of the calendar shakeup, a new Grand Prix in Madrid will make its debut, replacing the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix in Imola. Spain will enjoy the rare privilege of hosting two races, with Barcelona and Madrid both featuring on the schedule.

Additionally, the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku will shift its race day from Sunday, September 27, to Saturday, September 26, in observance of a national day celebration.

Anticipation for a Revolutionary Season

With an expanded grid, revolutionary new cars, and a packed 24-race calendar, the countdown to the 2026 Formula 1 season promises a year unlike any other in the sport’s storied history.
