Lewis Hamilton Slams Spanish Grand Prix as "Worst Race" of His Career

Lewis Hamilton did not hold back in his critique of Sunday’s Spanish Grand Prix, describing it as the "worst race" of his illustrious career. The seven-time world champion limped to a sixth-place finish and voiced his frustration with the lack of performance in a blunt post-race assessment.

A Struggling Race for Hamilton

Hamilton initially made strides, rising to fourth early on in the race, but his fortunes quickly declined. Struggling with rear grip, Hamilton was powerless to defend his position as Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc breezed past him, and later, Nico Hülkenberg in the underperforming Sauber dealt him another blow by snatching a place late in the race.

“That was the worst race I've experienced, balance wise. [I had no rear grip] pretty much the whole race. I have no idea why it was so bad,” Hamilton said to reporters.

When asked if anything positive emerged from the grueling afternoon at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, Hamilton was direct, replying, “Zero.” As for what came next, his response was as succinct as it was telling: “Home.”

Far From Championship Form

Currently sixth in the drivers' standings and a staggering 115 points behind leader Oscar Piastri, Hamilton has found himself far from his usual towering presence at the top of the sport. His move to Ferrari, initially heralded as a dream pairing between a motorsport icon and one of its most legendary teams, has yet to deliver the heights fans had hoped for.

While Ferrari sits second in the constructors’ standings, they remain miles behind McLaren in terms of pace. Compounded by the Scuderia’s inability to provide a competitive car, Hamilton’s frustration has only grown, as he continues to chase his first podium of the season.

Post-Race Remarks: Frustration Over Car Performance

Speaking to Sky Sports after the race, Hamilton again expressed his disappointment:

“Just not a great day. Strategy was good. Team did a great job. Just that’s it. I've had a really bad day and have nothing to say. It was a difficult day. There’s nothing else to add to it.”

He showed no optimism about the team’s ability to resolve the underlying issues plaguing their car, offering a bleak outlook:

“It was terrible. There’s no point explaining it. It’s not your fault. I just don’t know what to say.”

When asked if answers might be forthcoming, Hamilton added bluntly:

“I’m sure they won’t.”

Mounting Pressure on Hamilton and Ferrari

As the season progresses, Hamilton and Ferrari face mounting pressure to turn things around. For now, though, Sunday's outing in Barcelona serves as a bitter low point in what has been an uncharacteristically challenging year for the sport's celebrated champion.
