Max Verstappen Skips Media Obligations Ahead of Miami GP to Prepare for Fatherhood
Reigning Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen has excused himself from Thursday's media obligations at the Miami Grand Prix as he prepares for the imminent arrival of his first child.
Verstappen’s partner, Kelly Piquet, originally announced her pregnancy via a heartfelt social media post ahead of the final race of the 2024 season in Abu Dhabi. The post read, “Mini Verstappen-Piquet on the way. We couldn’t be happier with our little miracle.”
Red Bull Confirms Verstappen's Absence
In a statement issued by Red Bull Racing on Thursday, the team confirmed Verstappen’s absence from Miami’s pre-race activities, citing his focus on this personal milestone. "All is well," the statement assured fans, while calling for "respect towards the privacy of Max and his family." The 25-year-old Dutch driver is still scheduled to arrive in Miami in time for the first practice session of the sprint weekend on Friday.
Championship Battle Intensity
On the track, Verstappen currently sits third in the drivers' standings, trailing by 12 points to championship leader Oscar Piastri. The 2025 Formula 1 season is heating up, and every point will be crucial for Verstappen as he chases his next world title.
A Growing Family
Kelly Piquet, the daughter of three-time world champion Nelson Piquet, has a daughter named Penelope from her previous relationship with former F1 driver Daniil Kvyat. The family is now eagerly awaiting the arrival of its newest member.
While Verstappen’s focus momentarily shifts from the racetrack to fatherhood, all eyes will remain on Miami as the championship battle continues this weekend.
