Leclerc and Gasly disqualified from Chinese Grand Prix
Charles Leclerc and Pierre Gasly have been disqualified from the Chinese Grand Prix after their Ferrari and Alpine cars were found underweight in post-race checks. Leclerc initially finished fifth, while Gasly crossed the line in 11th at the Shanghai International Circuit.
The disqualifications stem from breaches of Article 4.1 of the Technical Regulations concerning car weight. FIA F1 Technical Delegate Jo Bauer’s report revealed Leclerc’s car met the 800kg minimum weight post-race, but fell to 799kg once fuel was drained. Gasly’s car also dropped to 799kg after a fuel mass check.
Following these findings, the stewards reviewed the situations and disqualified both drivers, altering the final results. Lewis Hamilton was promoted to fifth place, with Esteban Ocon, Kimi Antonelli, Alex Albon, and Ollie Bearman also moving up. Lance Stroll now finishes in the points.
Additionally, Hamilton and Ferrari are under investigation for a potential breach of Article 3.5.9 e) regarding rearmost skid thickness, hinting at further developments in Shanghai.
