Oscar Piastri shuts down Red Bull talks, commits to McLaren

Piastri dismisses Red Bull speculation, reaffirms commitment to McLaren.
MEXICO CITY – Australian Formula 1 driver Oscar Piastri has firmly refuted recent speculations linking him with a potential move to Red Bull Racing, amidst rumors that his manager, Mark Webber, is exploring opportunities with the team.
Following the U.S. Grand Prix, Red Bull's racing advisor Helmut Marko suggested that Webber, who raced for Red Bull from 2009 to 2013, was in active discussions regarding Piastri's future. "Let's put it this way: Mark Webber is intensively seeking conversation," Marko shared with F1-Insider.
However, Piastri has been quick to dismiss Marko's assertions, underscoring his commitment to McLaren, where he signed an extended contract lasting until the end of 2026 midway through his debut season last year.
"Definitely not," Piastri stated in response to Marko's claims. "I'm very happy where I am. I'm under contract for the next two years after this, and I'm certainly not looking to go elsewhere. It wouldn't be a week in F1 without some comments from Helmut."
When probed further about Marko's remarks, Piastri added, "Not massively. It's a nice compliment, I would say. But again, very happy with where I am. They have quite a big pool of drivers they can choose from if they want."
While Piastri continues to focus on his future with McLaren, the spotlight remains on Red Bull's driver lineup, consisting of reigning World Champion Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez. Despite being under contract for the upcoming season, both drivers’ tenures have prompted speculation.
Rumors persist of Mercedes boss Toto Wolff maintaining interest in Verstappen, while uncertainty surrounds Perez’s long-term role at Red Bull. Additionally, Liam Lawson, who recently filled in for Daniel Ricciardo at AlphaTauri, is considered a contender for Perez's seat next season.
For now, Piastri appears content with his trajectory at McLaren, seemingly unaffected by the swirling rumors in the paddock.
