Felipe Drugovich steps in for Fernando Alonso at Mexican Grand Prix practice

In a surprising development ahead of the Mexico Grand Prix, Aston Martin's reserve driver Felipe Drugovich took the wheel during the first practice session, standing in for an ailing Fernando Alonso. The 43-year-old Spaniard, a two-time World Champion, missed the track action due to illness but aims to return for the second practice session.

Alonso, who was set to mark his 400th Grand Prix event, has officially participated in 396 races. His career milestones include wins with Minardi, Renault, and Ferrari, with his last victory in 2013. Despite missing practice, Alonso reflected positively on his career: "Championships and race wins are what matter most to us as drivers... but, at the same time, it shows my love for the sport."

Beyond Formula 1, Alonso has achieved notable success, including two 24 Hours of Le Mans victories and a strong performance in the Indianapolis 500. He credited advancements in F1 technology for extending his career, stating, "Modern F1 is easier on the body... Seat comfort, safety equipment, helmets—everything has evolved into a better place."

As Drugovich takes over initial practice duties, attention remains on Alonso's swift recovery for the rest of the weekend's sessions.
