Ferrari is poised to address Lewis Hamilton’s recent struggles in qualifying with the highly anticipated Project 677 car for the 2025 Formula 1 season. Following a challenging year at Mercedes, the seven-time World Champion aims to regain his dominance on Saturdays as he begins his new chapter with Ferrari.

Hamilton Joins Ferrari in Search of a Fresh Start

Lewis Hamilton’s move to Ferrari, announced in early 2024, marks a significant shift in the F1 landscape. Partnering with Charles Leclerc, Ferrari’s star driver since 2019, Hamilton is eager to add to his record-breaking 104 pole positions and chase an eighth World Championship title.

Despite race wins at Silverstone and Spa last year, Hamilton endured one of his toughest seasons, regularly outqualified by teammate George Russell. His candid admission at the Qatar Grand Prix—"I’m not fast anymore"—sparked debates about his form and Ferrari’s decision to recruit the veteran driver.

Ferrari’s Project 677: Unlocking Qualifying Potential

The development of Ferrari’s F1 2025 car, codenamed Project 677, is being spearheaded by chassis technical director Loic Serra. A former Mercedes engineer who collaborated closely with Hamilton during his championship-winning years, Serra is focused on improving the car’s one-lap performance while ensuring competitive race pace.

According to reports, Project 677 will feature groundbreaking advancements in suspension dynamics, including a return to pullrod front suspension for the first time in a decade. This design, favored by rivals McLaren and Red Bull, is expected to enhance airflow under the car, improving downforce and stability—critical under the current ground-effect regulations.

Technical Innovations and Collaboration with Pirelli

Ferrari has worked closely with Pirelli on the development of new tires for 2025, designed to reduce overheating and extend race stints. Serra’s expertise in vehicle dynamics, particularly in areas like torsion bars and shock absorbers, is expected to maximize the car’s compatibility with these tires.

Additionally, Ferrari is addressing cockpit ergonomics—a notable sore point for Hamilton during his final seasons at Mercedes. Reports suggest that the cockpit in Project 677 has been repositioned further back, a move likely influenced by Hamilton’s feedback and aimed at enhancing driver comfort and control.

Project 677: A Bold Step Toward Championship Glory

Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur has described Project 677 as a "completely new car," signaling an ambitious effort to challenge for both World Championships in 2025. The car will also sport a redesigned livery, featuring a deeper shade of red, to commemorate Hamilton’s arrival.

Other notable updates include an extended wheelbase for improved aerodynamic efficiency and continued use of the divisive pullrod rear suspension, praised for its superior tire management. These changes aim to make Project 677 a force on both tight circuits like Monaco and high-speed tracks such as Monza.

Countdown to F1 2025: Ferrari’s Ambitions

Ferrari’s Project 677 will be unveiled on February 19, just a day after F1’s inaugural season-launch event in London. With Hamilton and Leclerc at the helm, the Scuderia is gearing up for a high-stakes campaign, hoping to end their championship drought and cement their legacy in F1 history.

As anticipation builds for the Australian Grand Prix in March, fans and analysts alike are eager to see whether Ferrari’s technical breakthroughs can restore Hamilton to the top of the qualifying charts and propel the team back to championship contention.
