Verstappen and Norris joke about ‘terrible' rivalry
BAHRAIN – Old friends and racing rivals Max Verstappen and Lando Norris playfully addressed questions regarding their relationship as they gear up for the 2025 season.
Verstappen and Norris laugh off rivalry questions in Bahrain preseason press conference.
Verstappen and Norris, who had on-track clashes in Austria, Austin, and Mexico City last year, were asked how their interactions might evolve if they find themselves competing for the championship once again.
The duo has a history of online racing together and maintains a friendly rapport, despite Norris criticizing Verstappen's race craft following the 2024 incidents. During the second day of preseason testing, both drivers engaged in a light-hearted exchange during a press conference.
Reigning four-time world champion Verstappen, already known for his sharp wit, responded to the question with sarcasm. "Yeah, it's a terrible relationship," he said with a smirk. "We don't get on any more. It's taken its toll. Yeah. Big drama."
McLaren driver Norris, who is the early bookies' favorite for the new season, playfully added, "We had a fight the other day in a local pub," prompting laughter from both.
Verstappen continued the banter, "We had to get escorted [out]. I always say, you should see the other guy... but he still looks good, so, whatever!"
On a more serious note, Norris commented on their racing outlook for the season. "I think we both look forward to more of last year, more battles. I don't think it's just going to be us," Norris remarked. "I think there's going to be others involved, which will make it more exciting for everyone. But yeah, I know they're going to be tough battles and I'm sure some of them are not always going to end the way I want or hopefully Max wants, but we're racing drivers.
"We get along. We've always said those kind of things. I know everyone tries to make their own points and say what's correct and what's not correct, but we respect each other a lot and we look forward to more racing on track."
Wrapping up the topic, Verstappen, sporting a grin, added, "No, that's beautifully said."
As the 2025 season looms, the camaraderie and mutual respect between Verstappen and Norris set the stage for what fans hope will be another thrilling year of Formula 1 racing.
