The 2025 Formula 1 season marks the final year of the current technical regulations, and with it comes the unveiling of each team's car chassis names. Here's a breakdown of confirmed and predicted F1 2025 car chassis names, based on the 2024 Constructors' Championship order.
McLaren – MCL39 (TBC)
McLaren returned to their naming convention in 2024 with the MCL38, after a tribute year with the MCL60 in 2023. The 2025 car is expected to be named the MCL39, continuing their tradition of combining "MCL" with the chassis number.
Ferrari – (TBC)
Ferrari is known for surprising fans with unique car names, ranging from SF70H in 2017 to F1-75 in 2022. While recent seasons have seen consistent naming conventions like the SF-23 and SF-24, the 2025 name remains a mystery.
Red Bull – RB21
Red Bull maintains simplicity in naming their cars, using "RB" followed by the car's edition number. The 2025 Red Bull machine is officially named the RB21, continuing their tradition dating back to their debut in 2005.
Mercedes – W16
Mercedes follows a long-standing tradition, naming their cars with "W," short for "Wagen" (car in German). The 2025 chassis, the W16, continues the lineage that started with the W01 in 2010.
Aston Martin – AMR25
Aston Martin's naming convention combines "AMR" (Aston Martin Racing) with the year. The 2025 car will follow this pattern as the AMR25.
Alpine – A525
Alpine confirmed their 2025 chassis name as the A525, combining their Formula 1 project codename (A500) with the year ('25).
Haas – VF-25 (TBC)
Haas is expected to continue their "VF" naming tradition, which began with the VF-16 in 2016. The 2025 car is likely to be named the VF-25, reflecting Gene Haas' original "Very First One" CNC machine.
Racing Bulls – VCARB 02 (TBC)
Racing Bulls hinted at naming their 2025 chassis VCARB 02, following their 2024 rebrand and the precedent set with the VCARB 01.
Williams – FW47
Williams has consistently named their cars after team founder Frank Williams. The FW47 will continue this tradition in the 2025 season.
Stake F1 Team Kick Sauber – C45 (TBC)
Sauber's final car under their name before Audi's 2026 takeover is expected to be the C45. The "C" honors team founder Peter Sauber's wife, Christine.
