Carlos Sainz shares his vision for F1 2025 with Williams, unveiling a 'solid plan' for the upcoming season and reflecting on his first impressions with the team.

New Williams signing Carlos Sainz has revealed a “solid plan” for the 2025 Formula 1 season, expressing confidence after an impressive debut with the team during the Abu Dhabi post-season test. Sainz, who joins Williams on a multi-year contract, replaces seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari.

A New Chapter for Carlos Sainz

Sainz’s departure from Ferrari followed the team’s decision not to renew his contract beyond 2024. Despite the setback, the Spaniard delivered a career-best season, securing two victories in Australia and Mexico before leaving the Scuderia. His early release from Ferrari allowed him to participate in Williams’ post-season test, where he completed 146 laps and set the second-fastest time of the day.

Impressions from Abu Dhabi and Future Goals

Reflecting on his first test with Williams, Sainz shared his optimism for the team’s future. “It’s an important time for the team, and we’re all pushing to bring Williams back to the front of the grid as soon as possible,” he said. “I was very impressed with the team back in Abu Dhabi. After a long year, it was great to see the motivation and effort everyone put in at such an important test.”

Sainz added that the team has developed a “solid plan” ahead of the season-opening Australian Grand Prix on March 16. “We’ve already started working on it to ensure we’re as prepared as possible ahead of pre-season testing. 2025 will be an exciting year, and we’re fully committed to delivering a strong season. Vamos!”

Williams' Ambitions for 2025

Williams team principal James Vowles described Sainz as a transformative signing for the team. “I rate Carlos as one of the top four drivers on the grid,” Vowles said. “He’s a performance machine who improves not just himself but the team around him. That’s incredibly powerful and invaluable for moving the team forward.”

Vowles emphasized Sainz’s ability to inspire growth within the organization, noting the Spaniard’s relentless dedication and leadership. “He’s someone who will do everything it takes to elevate the team, and that’s worth more than his driving skills alone,” he added.

Santander Partnership and FW47 Launch

Williams also announced a multi-year sponsorship deal with Spanish bank Santander, a partnership that previously supported Sainz during his time at Ferrari. The collaboration underscores the team’s ambitious plans for the future.

The FW47, Williams’ 2025 challenger, will be unveiled with a one-off livery at Silverstone on February 14, ahead of Formula 1’s first-ever collective season launch in London. Sainz expressed his excitement, saying, “I can’t wait to see my new ride and get the season underway.”

Looking Ahead

Carlos Sainz’s arrival at Williams marks a new era for the iconic team, aiming to climb back to the front of the Formula 1 grid. With Sainz’s experience and determination, coupled with strong leadership from James Vowles, Williams is poised to make significant strides in 2025.
