F1 Starting Grid: What is the Grid Order for the 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix?

McLaren has secured a crucial front-row lockout in Abu Dhabi, with the 2024 Formula 1 Constructors’ Championship now within their grasp. With Lando Norris on pole position and Oscar Piastri starting from second place, McLaren heads into the race with a 21-point lead over Ferrari, setting them up for their first Constructors’ Championship since 1998.

The 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix has the potential to deliver a historic outcome for McLaren, with Norris and Piastri both in top form. Their strong qualifying performance has given McLaren a significant advantage as they look to close out the season in style.

McLaren Closing In on First Constructors' Title Since 1998

With just one race remaining in the season, McLaren is on the brink of securing a monumental victory in the Constructors’ Championship. The team’s impressive performance in qualifying has placed them in an excellent position to take home the title, but Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz, starting from P3, will be looking to put up a strong fight in what will be his final race with Ferrari.

Key Qualifying Results

Max Verstappen will line up in P4, followed by Pierre Gasly in P5. George Russell, who starts from P6, will be looking to make up places during the race, while Nico Hulkenberg will join Russell on the third row, starting from P7. Fernando Alonso, Valtteri Bottas, and Sergio Perez complete the top 10.

Drivers Fighting for Top 10 Positions

Yuki Tsunoda, who starts in P11, will be leading the charge to break into the top 10. Behind him, Liam Lawson will look to continue his strong performance in P12, while Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll and Haas’ Kevin Magnussen round out the grid’s midfield positions. Williams' Alex Albon and Sauber's Zhou Guanyu form the eighth row.

Struggles for Lewis Hamilton

In what is set to be his final race for Mercedes, Lewis Hamilton faces a tough challenge after a difficult qualifying session. Hamilton, who had a promising start to his lap, suffered a mishap when a bollard dislodged by Kevin Magnussen became stuck under his W15 car. As a result, Hamilton will start in a lowly P17, a disappointing position for the seven-time world champion.

Penalties and Grid Drops

In addition to Hamilton’s woes, other drivers also face grid penalties. Haas’ Nico Hulkenberg, who had qualified in P6, will start further back after receiving a three-place grid penalty. Meanwhile, Jack Doohan, making his debut with Alpine, and Charles Leclerc, who had his Q2 lap time deleted for exceeding track limits and faces a 10-place grid drop for taking a new battery, will start at the very back of the grid.
