Mick Schumacher confirms he will continue with Alpine in the 2025 World Endurance Championship after his exit from Mercedes. The German driver transitions full-time to endurance racing after unsuccessful F1 attempts.

Mick Schumacher will continue his motorsport journey with Alpine in the 2025 World Endurance Championship (WEC), as the team confirmed his re-signing following the announcement that he will leave his reserve driver role at Mercedes at the end of 2024.

Schumacher's Transition to Endurance Racing

Schumacher, the son of Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher, joined Alpine for their maiden WEC campaign in 2024. Alongside his endurance racing duties, he also held a reserve role with Mercedes, hoping to keep his F1 career alive. Despite his efforts, a return to the Formula 1 grid did not materialize, as both Mercedes, Alpine, and Audi opted for rookie drivers for the 2025 season.

Schumacher’s Future in Motorsport: A Shift Toward WEC

As Schumacher’s Formula 1 dreams began to fade, he received advice from Helmut Marko, Red Bull’s motorsport advisor, urging him to focus on endurance racing, where he had already shown considerable promise. Marko encouraged the 25-year-old to continue in a field where he could truly compete and possibly find success. “He should then focus on endurance racing, where he has been very successful, and continue down that path,” Marko told RTL. “If Schumacher stays in motorsport, he will have to find something that he enjoys, but also where he has a chance to win.”

Heeding this advice, Schumacher has now secured his future with Alpine for the 2025 World Endurance Championship season. The team confirmed his re-signing alongside five other talented drivers who will compete in the A425.

Alpine’s 2025 WEC Lineup

Schumacher will be part of a six-driver lineup for Alpine in the upcoming WEC season. Alongside Schumacher, the team will field Ferdinand Habsburg, Jules Gounon, Charles Milesi, Paul-Loup Chatin, and new arrival Frédéric Makowiecki. Alpine took to social media to announce their lineup, stating: “Our 2025 lineup is here! Six talented endurance drivers, one shared goal: pushing limits and chasing trophies. Let’s write the next chapter together.”

Schumacher’s Success with Alpine in 2024

In the 2024 season, Schumacher helped Alpine secure an impressive fourth place finish in the World Endurance Manufacturers' Championship, marking a significant achievement for the team, especially as a newcomer to the sport. Reflecting on this result, Schumacher said, “This result sees us clinch fourth place in the championship, which was our target when we came to Bahrain. The pace was there, even though we had to deal with damage to the #36 car.”

Schumacher went on to praise his teammates, adding, “Our sister car was also up to the job and secured a good result. The whole team can be satisfied with this result, and now let’s see what the future holds.”

Schumacher’s Departure from Mercedes

The confirmation of Schumacher's WEC future with Alpine came shortly after he announced that he would part ways with Mercedes at the end of the year. Reflecting on the decision, Schumacher admitted that it had been difficult watching F1 cars race without being in the cockpit himself. “Watching these cars race and not sitting in the cockpit myself is tough. I want to get back to focusing 100% on racing. I want to be fully committed to the sporting side of motorsport,” he said.

Schumacher expressed his deep passion for racing, saying, “Ultimately, it is racing that you want to do as a driver, it is racing that gives you that feeling you love.”

Looking Ahead: The 2025 WEC Season

The 2025 FIA World Endurance Championship season kicks off with the Prologue, followed by the Qatar 1812 km race at the Losail International Circuit from February 21 to 28, 2025. With Schumacher now fully committed to Alpine’s WEC program, he will be looking to continue his success in endurance racing and further establish his name in the sport.

As the 2025 season approaches, all eyes will be on Schumacher and his teammates as they aim for new triumphs and challenges in the highly competitive world of endurance racing.
