2024 Las Vegas Grand Prix – Qualifying F1 Results (Las Vegas Strip Circuit)

The 2024 Las Vegas Grand Prix saw a thrilling and dramatic qualifying session at the Las Vegas Strip Circuit in Nevada. Mercedes' George Russell claimed pole position despite facing fierce competition from Ferrari and a significant crash during Q2 that caused a delay. Below are the full qualifying results for this exciting race weekend.

Q3 Results

George Russell took pole position for the 2024 Las Vegas Grand Prix after a tense and delayed Q3 session. Russell set the quickest time in the initial runs, posting a 1:32.811. He later requested to go later in the pack for his second run, anticipating the track would improve as the session progressed.

Ferrari's Carlos Sainz and Red Bull's Max Verstappen were also strong contenders at the top, while there were mistakes from other top drivers. Ferrari's Charles Leclerc ran wide at Turn 7, losing valuable time and dropping down the order. Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton struggled as well, missing his braking point at Turn 11, which forced him to turn around in the escape area.

Russell, who had previously tapped the wall at Turn 5 during his flying lap, required precautionary checks from his team. Despite this, Mercedes sent him back out on track with only enough time for one more attempt. As the track evolved, Leclerc initially moved into provisional pole, but was soon surpassed by Sainz. Alpine’s Pierre Gasly also made his presence felt, splitting the Ferraris with a strong lap.

In the final laps, Russell’s last-ditch effort saw him post a 1:32.312, securing pole position by just 0.098 seconds over Sainz. Gasly and Leclerc rounded out the second row, while Verstappen and Norris would occupy the third row. Hamilton struggled to improve and finished 10th.

Q2 Results

Mercedes dominated Q2 as well, with Lewis Hamilton setting the fastest time at the chequered flag with a 1:32.567. However, the session was marred by a significant crash from Williams' Franco Colapinto. The Argentine driver misjudged his turn into Turn 16 and hit the inside wall, sliding across the track and crashing heavily into the outside wall. The crash caused substantial damage to Colapinto's car and led to a delay in the session.

Colapinto was visibly frustrated but fortunately uninjured. He was eliminated in 14th place, and the other drivers to miss out on Q3 were Esteban Ocon (11th), Kevin Magnussen (12th), Zhou Guanyu (13th), and Liam Lawson (15th).

Despite late improvements from several drivers, the big shock came from Red Bull's Sergio Perez, who only scraped through to Q2, finishing 16th after a disappointing final lap.

Alongside Perez, two Aston Martins were eliminated: Fernando Alonso (17th) and Lance Stroll (20th). Stroll’s session was compromised by an ERS issue, which kept him in the garage for much of the session. Williams' Alex Albon (18th) and Sauber's Valtteri Bottas (19th) were also eliminated.
