GP Qualifying: Norris clinches pole ahead of Piastri and Verstappen during dramatic qualifying in Hungary as Perez crashes out
BUDAPEST, Hungary -- Lando Norris has taken pole position for the Hungarian Grand Prix following a dramatic and chaotic qualifying session marked by changing weather conditions, two red flags, and a frantic final dash.

A heavy crash from Yuki Tsunoda in the RB brought the session to a halt, leaving just over two minutes on the clock upon resumption. Due to varying weather conditions, most drivers were unable to improve their times, thus securing Norris's P1 spot. He edged out teammate Oscar Piastri by 0.022s, while Max Verstappen, opting not to push for a final lap, settled for third.
Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz secured fourth place, and Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes completed the top five. Charles Leclerc took P6 for Ferrari, with Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll following in P7 and P8 respectively. RB’s Daniel Ricciardo finished in P9, and Tsunoda managed P10 despite his crash.
Nico Hulkenberg narrowly missed out on Q3 by one-hundredth of a second, placing P11 in his Haas, and Valtteri Bottas of Kick Sauber ended in P12. The Williams pair of Alex Albon and Logan Sargeant, along with Haas's Kevin Magnussen, dropped out in Q2, filling spots 13 through 15.
Q1 saw significant drama with Sergio Perez crashing into barriers, bringing out the red flags and ending his day in P16. George Russell in P17 struggled with ill-timed laps. Zhou Guanyu placed 18th, while Alpine’s Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly were eliminated in spots 19 and 20 due to a strategic misstep.
The stage is set for an electrifying Hungarian Grand Prix, with Norris on pole, closely followed by Piastri and Verstappen.
