FP1: Norris tops Stroll and Piastri in Silverstone FP1
McLaren’s Lando Norris delighted home fans by setting the fastest time in the first practice session of the British Grand Prix weekend, clocking a 1m 27.420s. Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll and fellow McLaren driver Oscar Piastri completed the top three.

The session marked a significant moment for Oliver Bearman, who joined the track alongside fellow F2 competitors Isack Hadjar and Franco Colapinto.
Early drama unfolded as Yuki Tsunoda’s car beached in the gravel, causing a red flag just 10 minutes in. Action resumed with 44 minutes remaining, and Carlos Sainz initially took P1 with a lap of 1m 27.925s on hard tyres.
As drizzle began to fall, Piastri experienced a potential hydraulic issue but still managed to secure third. Norris, however, set the fastest time on soft tyres, finishing 0.134s ahead of Stroll.
Max Verstappen placed fourth for Red Bull, followed by Mercedes' Russell and Lewis Hamilton in fifth and seventh, with Fernando Alonso’s Aston Martin separating them in sixth. Ferraris Charles Leclerc and Sainz settled into P8 and P9, while Alpine’s Esteban Ocon completed the top ten.
Nico Hulkenberg (Haas) took P11, while Valtteri Bottas (Kick Sauber) and Daniel Ricciardo (RB) followed in P12 and P13. Bearman impressed with P14, ahead of Kick Sauber’s Zhou Guanyu.
Alex Albon (Williams) finished 16th, with Jack Doohan (Alpine) forcing his way to P17 despite session interruptions. Colapinto was 18th, with Hadjar close in 19th after a near-miss with Norris. Tsunoda’s early incident consigned him to 20th place.
Teams and drivers will now analyze the data ahead of the second practice session set for 1600 local time.
