Monaco Grand Prix Contract Extended Through 2035

Formula One has signed a new agreement to keep the Monaco Grand Prix on the Formula 1 calendar through 2035, the series confirmed Friday, finalizing the Monaco GP contract extension many fans and teams have been tracking.

The storied street race, winding around the Monte Carlo harbor, has long been considered the most iconic stop on the F1 schedule and an essential fixture of the Monaco street circuit’s legacy in Formula 1 history. After years of uncertainty, Monaco secured an extension to 2031 in November; Friday’s deal adds four more years to the long-term hosting agreement.

The Principality’s contract now ranks among the longest on the current F1 race calendar, reinforcing Monaco’s status among long-term Formula 1 hosting deals. Bahrain (2036), Australia (2037), and Miami and Austria (both 2041) run beyond Monaco’s term, while Madrid’s incoming race is contracted through 2035.

Recent Changes and Challenges

This year’s Monaco Grand Prix introduced a two-stop mandatory tire rule—effectively requiring two mandatory pit stops at the Monaco GP—aimed at improving the spectacle. The experiment was widely panned by drivers and fans, however, renewing calls for changes to enable more overtaking opportunities at the Monaco street circuit, where F1’s larger modern cars and Monte Carlo’s narrow streets often combine to make a processional grand prix. Friday’s announcement did not include any commitment to alter the track layout or circuit configuration.

F1 Management Comments

“The streets of Monaco have been echoing with the sound of Formula 1 since the earliest days of the sport,” F1 boss Stefano Domenicali said to mark the news. “So I’m delighted to announce the extension of this fantastic event to 2035. It’s an iconic race that is loved by all drivers and fans, with a unique vibe thanks to its location on the world’s most glamorous Principality.”
