McLaren Teammates Clash in Dramatic Finish at Canadian Grand Prix
MONTREAL – Tensions flared and fortunes shifted at the Canadian Grand Prix as McLaren teammates Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri were involved in a dramatic crash just four laps from the finish. The incident, which took place on the start-finish straight, not only ended Norris's race but also left a significant mark on the championship standings.
Norris, running fifth at the time, attempted an aggressive pass on teammate and title rival Piastri. However, the maneuver went awry when Norris clipped the rear of Piastri’s car, sending his own McLaren into the wall. The collision shattered Norris’s front wing and left tire, forcing him into retirement.
Adding to the chaos, the crash brought the race to a quiet conclusion under a safety car. Pole-sitter George Russell ultimately cruised to victory, capitalizing on the incident between the McLaren drivers.
Over team radio, Norris took immediate responsibility for the collision. "Sorry," he said. "All my bad. All my fault. Stupid from me."
The incident marked the first on-track collision between the two McLaren drivers, both of whom have been battling fiercely at the top of the championship leaderboard. Heading into Sunday’s race, Piastri held a narrow 10-point advantage over Norris. With Norris failing to finish, that gap has now widened to 22 points, giving Piastri a sizable cushion as the title race heats up.
For McLaren, the Canadian Grand Prix will be remembered less for its competitive promise and more for the costly fallout between its two star drivers. The team will now look to regroup and manage the growing pressure as the season progresses.
