Las Vegas Grand Prix Secures Spot on Formula 1 Calendar Until 2027

Formula 1 and the Las Vegas Grand Prix have officially extended their partnership, ensuring the high-stakes race will remain on the calendar until at least 2027. The announcement solidifies the event's place as one of the sport's marquee weekends, showcasing F1's vision for a long-term presence in the entertainment capital of the world.

Both parties expressed optimism about continuing beyond the current agreement. Clark County has already approved hosting the race through 2032, and the event's inclusion on the recently announced 2026 racing calendar has been formalized with this new extension. F1 initially entered Las Vegas in 2023 with a three-year deal, bringing the sport to a circuit that features a visually stunning backstraight down the iconic Las Vegas Strip.

New Contract Cycle Confirmed

On Saturday, Emily Prazer, president of the Las Vegas Grand Prix, confirmed the new contract cycle and emphasized the importance of a longer-term strategy.

"We've agreed collectively that we're going to do a two-year extension for 2026 and '27," Prazer said. "We want to make sure that we're continuing to evolve what we're doing. But the intent is a much longer-term arrangement.

“As we all know, the race has had its challenges, but we're coming out the other side. So we want to make sure that it continues to work for both sides. So collectively, we sat down and agreed that was the best approach. We're very much planning longer-term, but that's kind of where we're at right now."

Las Vegas Grand Prix as a Key Fixture

The Las Vegas Grand Prix has quickly established itself as a key fixture on the F1 calendar, both for fans and the city itself. The 2025 event is slated for November 22, continuing its tradition of taking place the weekend before Thanksgiving. Historically, November has been one of Las Vegas' weaker months commercially, but the race has flipped the narrative. Last year, November broke records as the most commercially successful month in Las Vegas' history.

Figures released earlier this year revealed the 2024 race alone generated $934 million in revenue for the city, while contributing $45 million in taxes. City officials have credited F1 with transforming what was previously one of the least successful weekends of the year into one of its most profitable.

Permanent Infrastructure Shows F1’s Commitment

Formula 1 has shown a clear commitment to the Las Vegas Grand Prix through its investment in permanent infrastructure. The Grand Prix Plaza, located in the heart of the city, serves as the paddock facility during race weekends and highlights the organization's dedication to building a lasting presence in Las Vegas.

Steve Hill, CEO and president of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, also expressed confidence in the race's future, emphasizing the practicality of incremental extensions rather than locking in a decades-long deal prematurely.

"The length of extensions don't really reflect anything other than it just makes sense incrementally," Hill said. "We know what's going to happen over the next couple of years. We're planning on this being a permanent race; we'll just keep planning extensions that will probably expand as we go forward."

A Bright Future for the Las Vegas Grand Prix

With both Formula 1 and Las Vegas evidently eager to continue growing together, the Las Vegas Grand Prix looks poised to be a permanent fixture, entertaining fans and boosting the city’s economy for years to come.
