McLaren Unveils Throwback Livery at the Monaco Grand Prix

MONACO — McLaren has unveiled a throwback livery paying homage to its rich Formula 1 heritage, which will make its debut at the Monaco Grand Prix this weekend and carry through to the Spanish Grand Prix. Drawing inspiration from the iconic McLaren M7A—the car that secured the team's first-ever F1 victory in 1968—the updated design features nods to McLaren’s historic papaya orange and the timeless sophistication of the Riviera.

The centerpiece of the revamped design is the addition of white roundels on the rear and top of the chassis, each showcasing bold driver numbers. This detail harkens back to Bruce McLaren’s distinctive M7A challenger, which epitomized the team’s early glory days. Embodying both tradition and modernity, the new livery was launched Wednesday aboard a yacht in Monaco harbor, part of a collaborative event with McLaren's cryptocurrency sponsor, OKX.

“We wanted to honor the origins of our success while embracing the unique charm of Monaco,” the team shared during the unveiling.

Exclusive Livery Enhances Monaco’s Glamour

Adding to the weekend’s exclusivity, McLaren drivers Lando Norris and rookie sensation Oscar Piastri will sport one-off race suits designed to complement the retro aesthetic as the team looks to capitalize on its recent dominance on the track.

McLaren has established a tradition of introducing special liveries for the Monaco Grand Prix in recent years. Last season, the car was adorned with a bright yellow tribute to the legendary Ayrton Senna, and in 2021, the team used Gulf-inspired colors in one of the most talked-about livery changes of the modern era.

McLaren’s Competitive Momentum

On the competitive front, McLaren enters the weekend in commanding form. The British team holds a sizable 132-point lead at the top of the constructors' standings. Meanwhile, teammate rivalry is heating up, as Piastri edges Norris by 12 points in the drivers’ championship—a remarkable start for the rookie.

With this striking new look and a strong performance trajectory, McLaren is poised to turn even more heads at one of Formula 1’s most glamorous stops. Fans and rivals alike will be watching to see if this blend of history and cutting-edge performance continues to fuel McLaren’s dominant reinvention.
