McLaren confirms return to World Endurance Championship in 2027

McLaren has officially announced its return to the World Endurance Championship (WEC) in 2027, signaling a highly anticipated comeback with a concise statement on Thursday, "we're back." The team, which famously won the Le Mans 24 Hours race in 1995 with the F1 GTR, is poised to compete at the highest level of endurance racing once again.
"1995. Legendary Le Mans victory. Triple Crown glory. Ready to make our mark on the world endurance stage once again," read the five-line statement, culminating with, "Hypercar. 2027 World Endurance Championship." McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown echoed the announcement with a simple declaration: "We're back."
With no further details provided, the specifics of McLaren's 2027 campaign remain under wraps. Historically, McLaren contested the top category of Le Mans in 1997 and 1998 before a return in the LMGT3 sportscar category in 2024.
The hypercar category, set to feature 11 marques in 2027, will also see the return of Ford and the debut of Hyundai's Genesis. Ferrari, having rejoined the WEC in 2023, has dominated Le Mans with consecutive wins.
