Eddie Jordan, former F1 team boss, dies at 76

It was confirmed on Thursday that Eddie Jordan, former Formula 1 team boss and TV analyst, passed away at the age of 76. Jordan, who had been battling aggressive prostate and bladder cancer since December, died in Cape Town with his family by his side on March 20, 2025.

His team and family released a statement: "It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Eddie Jordan OBE, ex-Formula 1 team owner, TV pundit, and entrepreneur. He passed away peacefully after battling prostate cancer for the past 12 months."

Known for his charisma and energy, Jordan's passing is deeply felt across the motorsport community. The Jordan family expressed, "He will be missed by so many people, but he leaves us with great memories to keep us smiling through our sorrow."

Formula One CEO Stefano Domenicali also paid tribute, noting Jordan's inexhaustible energy and genuine personality. "Eddie has been a protagonist of an era of F1 and he will be deeply missed," said Domenicali.

Born on March 30, 1948, Jordan had a significant career in motorsport. After competing in junior series, he became a driver manager and team owner. In 1991, he founded Jordan Grand Prix, achieving four race victories until the team's sale in 2005. F1 greats such as Michael and Ralf Schumacher, as well as Damon Hill, raced for his team during their careers.

Aston Martin, the current iteration of Jordan's original team, released a statement: "We're deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Eddie Jordan. His impact will be felt across the motorsport community for generations to come." Team boss Andy Cowell added, "Eddie Jordan was one of the all-time motorsport greats… Today we pay tribute to a legend of the sport."

Jordan was not only influential in F1 but also a successful businessman. Recently, he led a consortium to bring the London Irish rugby club out of administration. He is survived by his wife Marie and their children Zoe, Miki, Zak, and Kyle.
