Max Verstappen calls for stability before 5th F1 title tilt
Max Verstappen is eyeing his fifth consecutive Formula 1 title with Red Bull in 2025 and has emphasized the need for more stability throughout the season.
The 27-year-old champion triumphed over McLaren's Lando Norris last season to secure his fourth title, despite facing challenges such as driving a car that wasn't always the fastest on the grid. The departure of car design expert Adrian Newey and the cleared misconduct investigation of team principal Christian Horner added to the team's hurdles in 2024.
"Last year has been challenging at times," Verstappen said. "Of course, we had a lot of good moments, of course, also some tough moments, and I hope that we can be, let's say, a little bit more stable and a little bit more all-round throughout the season."
Red Bull appointed Liam Lawson as Verstappen's new teammate, following Sergio Pérez's disappointing performance last season. Verstappen expressed his anticipation for the new season.
"What I'm looking forward to the most is just to see how competitive we are. Of course, as you said, new teammate in Liam [Lawson]," Verstappen added. "I'm excited to be working with him as well, and I think the whole team is excited to, yeah, look ahead to this season."
While F1 legend Michael Schumacher was the last driver to win five straight world titles from 2000 to 2004, Verstappen remains focused on the present.
"Honestly, my mindset hasn't really changed," he said. "Of course, winning four titles has been a dream, more than a dream, I would say. I'm relaxed. I'm just looking forward, of course, to see how competitive we can be. And from there onwards also, once you realise a bit how competitive you are, you set a bit of a target, but that's too early to say at the moment."
