Sauber F1 team set to open UK base as prep for Audi relaunch

Sauber F1 team to launch UK base in preparation for Audi F1 relaunch.
In anticipation of its transformation into the Audi F1 team next year, Sauber has announced its plans to open a new base in the United Kingdom by 2025.
According to a statement from Sauber, the new "technical centre" is intended to attract "local engineering talent for the Audi F1 Project."
While the primary chassis-building operations will continue in Hinwil, Switzerland, the newly developed Audi engines for the 2026 season are set to be produced in Neuburg an der Donau, Germany.
Notably, seven out of the ten Formula 1 teams are currently based in the UK. Sauber aims to join this elite group by establishing its new facility in what is commonly referred to as "Motorsport Valley," a hub known for its large concentration of teams and suppliers.
The team is evaluating potential sites in Bicester, Silverstone, and Milton Keynes, with the goal of having the base operational by the summer of 2025.
"We are excited to establish our technical centre in the UK to complement our key site in Hinwil, which will continue to lead our main engineering operations and experience the largest team growth," stated COO and CTO Mattia Binotto. "Expanding into the UK allows us to remain close to one of the world's most dynamic motorsport ecosystems. Our vision is to create a strong, collaborative network across Hinwil and the UK, driving innovation and performance."
Despite finishing last in the 2024 constructors' championship, Sauber is looking forward to a fresh start under the Audi banner, aiming to take advantage of the new facility to bolster its engineering prowess and competitive edge.
