Lewis Hamilton begins new chapter with Ferrari at Fiorano track debut

Maranello, Italy - Formula 1 icon Lewis Hamilton got behind the wheel of a Ferrari for the first time on Wednesday at Fiorano, marking a significant moment in his new tenure with the storied Italian team.

Enthusiastic crowds gathered at Ferrari's Maranello base to witness Hamilton's inaugural track outing. The regulations of Formula 1 stipulate that he can only drive a car that is at least two years old. Utilizing its own test track at Fiorano, Ferrari offered fans numerous publicly accessible areas around the circuit perimeter, allowing them to watch Hamilton make history as he drove a Ferrari Formula 1 car for the first time.

The excitement built on Tuesday when Hamilton shared a photograph of himself in the iconic red Ferrari race suit. By Wednesday morning, he had unveiled his new helmet design on Instagram, featuring a striking yellow and red color scheme. This new design not only pays homage to the yellow helmet he used in his 2007 F1 debut but also incorporates the yellow from Ferrari's logo, symbolizing Modena, the hometown of Ferrari's founder, Enzo Ferrari.

Hamilton’s transition to Ferrari, after 12 illustrious years with Mercedes, became official on New Year's Day. He only commenced his duties in Maranello this week, which included an introductory tour of the factory and meetings with the team’s top brass on Monday. Among those he met were chairman John Elkann and CEO Benedetto Vigna, as well as various departmental personnel who contribute to Ferrari's F1 efforts.

An important part of Hamilton's integration was his seat fitting, ensuring optimal comfort in the cockpit. He also had an opportunity to acquaint himself with the 2025 car through the team's advanced simulator, though real-world experience behind the wheel of the new model won't happen until its official launch on February 19.

Hamilton’s move to Ferrari is eagerly anticipated by fans and marks the beginning of a new chapter in the career of the seven-time world champion. Racing aficionados will be keenly watching how this partnership progresses over the upcoming season.
