Formula 1 will bid farewell to the Dutch Grand Prix at Circuit Zandvoort in 2026, following a decision for only a one-year extension of the event which has been a fan favorite since its 2021 revival. Formula 1 officials confirmed Wednesday that this extension will mark the conclusion of the race's storied run in the Netherlands.

The race has notably garnered immense popularity, especially among supporters of Dutch racing phenom Max Verstappen, who has triumphed at the circuit on three occasions. The scenic Zandvoort track has captivated audiences and contributed significantly to the local tourism and economy, with its thrilling races and vibrant atmosphere.

"I am incredibly grateful for the work that the team at the Dutch Grand Prix have done in recent years," remarked Stefano Domenicali, CEO and President of F1. He praised the promoters for elevating the standard for European Grand Prix events with their dynamic approach to spectacle and entertainment. Domenicali also highlighted their commitment to nurturing young racing talents by including Formula 2, Formula 3, and the F1 Academy series in the event lineup.

Moreover, Zandvoort has taken pioneering strides toward sustainability, an initiative that resonates deeply with Formula 1’s own objectives. "They have also pioneered sustainable solutions that have inspired our events around the world as we drive towards being Net Zero by 2030," Domenicali added.

While various alternatives such as event alternation were considered, mutual respect for the promoter's decision guided the final agreement to conclude the Dutch Grand Prix's impressive tenure in 2026. Domenicali expressed deep gratitude towards the Dutch Grand Prix team and the Municipality of Zandvoort for their exemplary partnership with Formula 1.

Looking ahead, the F1 calendar faces potential reshuffling to accommodate new and returning races, with ongoing discussions about including a race in Africa and reintegrating the German and French Grands Prix. Other notable European races like the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona, the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa, and Imola in Italy are also candidates for potential rotation starting from 2026, reflecting Formula 1's strategy to diversify and enrich the global racing experience.

As the Formula 1 season draws to a close in Abu Dhabi this Sunday, fans of the Dutch Grand Prix can look forward to celebrating its final chapters, cherishing the legacy of exhilarating races at the historic Circuit Zandvoort until its concluding event in 2026.
