FIA Confirms 2025 F1 Entry List
The FIA has released the official Formula 1 2025 entry list, confirming key details about next season's drivers and teams. Notably, two recently retired World Champion driver numbers will be back on the grid as new rookies enter the sport.
Gabriel Bartoleto and Jack Doohan Select Iconic Numbers
Sauber’s newest recruit, Gabriel Bartoleto, will race with the number 5, a number last used by Sebastian Vettel in 2022. Bartoleto previously ran with the number 5 in his Formula 3 championship-winning campaign with Trident.
Meanwhile, Jack Doohan, set to compete with Alpine, has chosen the number 7, which was last used by Kimi Raikkonen in 2021. Doohan previously raced with the number 7 while competing in Euroformula Open with Raikkonen’s Double R team.
“One of my idols, a super special person and driver, Kimi Raikkonen, also drove with that number,” said Doohan. “I’m looking forward to making it my own and getting some luck from number seven.”
Other Rookie Number Choices
Newcomer Kimi Antonelli, joining Mercedes, has selected the number 12, last used by Felipe Nasr in 2016. Meanwhile, Ollie Bearman, who previously raced with the temporary number 38 for Ferrari, will now use 87 as his permanent race number.
Formula 1's Driver Number System
Since 2014, F1 has allowed drivers to select permanent numbers for their careers. Once a driver exits the sport for two consecutive seasons, their number is re-entered into the available pool. Numbers 2-99 are permitted, with number 1 reserved for the reigning World Champion. The number 17 remains retired in honor of Jules Bianchi.
Racing Bulls Officially Rebranded
The FIA’s entry list also confirms that VCARB has officially rebranded as Racing Bulls for the 2025 season. Previously known as Visa Cash App RB, the team name now aligns with its Italian business registration, Racing Bulls S.p.A.
“We’ve struggled with making it clear to people what the team name is,” said team CEO Peter Bayer. “People were referring to us as Visa Cash App Racing Bulls, so we decided to clarify it. Moving forward, we are Racing Bulls.”
The rebrand aims to prevent confusion with Red Bull Racing and establish a clearer team identity.
As the 2025 Formula 1 season approaches, new rookies will take the track with numbers once held by World Champions. Meanwhile, Racing Bulls embarks on a fresh identity, marking a new chapter in the sport’s evolving landscape.
