Sprint Qualifying: Verstappen clinches sprint qualifying pole in Austria

Max Verstappen will start from pole position in the Austrian Sprint after narrowly outpacing Lando Norris during a high-stakes Sprint Qualifying session. Verstappen posted a 1m 04.686s lap in his Red Bull to beat McLaren's Norris by just 0.093s.

Oscar Piastri made it a strong showing for McLaren by securing third place. George Russell placed his Mercedes in fourth, ahead of Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz in fifth. Lewis Hamilton will share the third row with Sainz, qualifying in sixth.

Sergio Perez grabbed seventh for Red Bull, while the Alpine duo of Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly took eighth and ninth respectively. Charles Leclerc failed to set a time, stalling in the pit lane, and will start from tenth.

Kevin Magnussen narrowly missed SQ3, finishing 11th for Haas. Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso will begin from 12th and 13th, with RB’s Yuki Tsunoda in 14th. Williams' Logan Sargeant out-qualified teammate Alex Albon to secure 15th place.

Daniel Ricciardo and Nico Hulkenberg were early casualties, placing 16th and 17th respectively. The Kick Sauber pair of Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu will start 18th and 20th, with Albon in 19th between them.

Teams will now prepare for the Sprint race as the weekend action in Austria continues.
