With only 10 teams on the Formula 1 grid in 2025, team ownership in Formula 1 remains one of the most exclusive and valuable positions in global sports

As F1’s popularity continues to surge worldwide, team equity has attracted interest from global investors, sovereign wealth funds, and private equity firms seeking stakes in the sport.

Following McLaren’s recent major ownership structure change in 2025, here is a detailed look at who owns every Formula 1 team in the current 2025 F1 season and how each team is operated.

McLaren Formula 1 team ownership in 2025 – Mumtalakat Holding Company, MSP Sports Capital, CYVN Holdings

McLaren Racing, a central entity within the McLaren Group, experienced significant ownership reshuffling in recent years, culminating in 2023 and 2025 changes. In 2023, Bahrain’s sovereign wealth fund, Mumtalakat, acquired full ownership of the McLaren Group, having initially invested in 2007.

The McLaren F1 team, while part of the broader McLaren Group, has external investors. U.S.-based MSP Sports Capital increased its stake from 15% during the COVID-19 pandemic to 33% in 2022.

In April 2025, Abu Dhabi government-backed CYVN Holdings completed the purchase of McLaren Automotive, McLaren’s road car division. This deal included a non-controlling stake in McLaren Racing. Despite these changes, Mumtalakat remains the major shareholder, and McLaren Racing’s operations are stated to remain “unchanged” in 2025.

Scuderia Ferrari ownership 2025 – Exor N.V., Piero Ferrari, public shareholders

Ferrari’s ownership combines corporate control with public investment. The Italian F1 legend went public in 2015, listing on both the New York and Milan stock exchanges.

Exor N.V., the holding company controlled by the Agnelli family, owns 22.91%, Piero Ferrari, son of founder Enzo Ferrari, holds 10%, and the remaining 67.09% is held by public shareholders as of 2025.

Oracle Red Bull Racing & Visa Cash App RB ownership – Red Bull GmbH

Both Oracle Red Bull Racing and Visa Cash App RB, the two Red Bull-owned F1 teams, operate under Red Bull GmbH, the Austrian energy drink conglomerate.

Founded in 1984 by Dietrich Mateschitz and Chaleo Yoovidhya, Red Bull entered Formula 1 in 2005 after purchasing Jaguar Racing, later adding Minardi (rebranded Toro Rosso) in 2006. After Mateschitz’s death in 2022, his 49% share transferred to his son Mark Mateschitz. The remaining 51% remains with Chalerm Yoovidhya, heir to the founding Yoovidhya family.

Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 team ownership 2025 – Mercedes-Benz Group, Toto Wolff, INEOS

The Mercedes F1 team ownership is divided equally between the Mercedes-Benz Group, team principal Toto Wolff, and British multinational chemical company INEOS.

Mercedes entered Formula 1 in 2010 by purchasing Brawn GP. Toto Wolff acquired a 30% stake in 2013, while the late Niki Lauda owned 10% until his passing in 2019, when his shares reverted to Mercedes. INEOS joined in 2020, resulting in an even three-way ownership split.

INEOS, led by billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe, also owns sports franchises including OGC Nice, INEOS Grenadiers cycling team, and a stake in Manchester United.

Aston Martin Aramco F1 team ownership 2025 – AMR Holdings GP Limited, Arctos Partners

The former Racing Point and Force India team is now Aston Martin, owned primarily by Canadian billionaire Lawrence Stroll.

Stroll bought the team in 2019 and rebranded it as Aston Martin in 2021 after becoming executive chairman of Aston Martin Lagonda. In 2023, private equity firm Arctos Partners acquired a minority stake.

By March 2025, Stroll’s Yew Tree Consortium purchased Aston Martin Lagonda’s remaining F1 stake, increasing his shareholding to 33% and contributing over £125 million in capital.

MoneyGram Haas F1 team ownership 2025 – Haas Automation

Haas F1 remains the only team fully owned by a single entity. American entrepreneur Gene Haas, via his company Haas Automation, retains 100% ownership.

While this streamlined ownership enables control, Haas operates on a smaller budget compared to many rivals but has secured significant commercial deals including title sponsorship from MoneyGram and a technical partnership with Toyota.

BWT Alpine F1 team ownership 2025 – Renault Group, Otro Capital

Alpine’s ownership includes a majority stake by the Renault Group, with a 24% minority stake sold to U.S. investment group Otro Capital in 2023.

Otro Capital’s investor lineup features RedBird Capital, Maximum Effort Investments, and celebrities like Ryan Reynolds, Rob McElhenney, Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Rory McIlroy, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Anthony Joshua.

Williams Racing ownership 2025 – Dorilton Capital

Once family-owned by Sir Frank Williams, the team was sold to U.S. private investment firm Dorilton Capital in 2020.

Following the sale, the Williams family fully exited, including former deputy team principal Claire Williams. Dorilton has since invested heavily in modernizing the team.

Stake F1 team kick Sauber ownership 2025 – Audi, Qatar Investment Authority

Formerly Sauber, this team has been transitioning to Audi’s full factory entry in 2026.

Audi acquired a minority stake in January 2023 and fully purchased the team by March 2024. Later in 2024, Audi sold approximately 30% to Qatar Investment Authority (QIA), the sovereign wealth fund managing over $500 billion in assets.

As Formula 1 expands globally—from Las Vegas to the Middle East—team ownership stakes become more lucrative and internationally diversified

Whether driven by passion, profit, or geopolitics, the business of owning a Formula 1 team in 2025 has never been more competitive.
