Racing driver John Surtees: Formula 1 world champion and a true legend of the track

John Surtees was a British racing legend known for his unique achievement of winning world championships on both two and four wheels. Born on February 11, 1934, in Tatsfield, Surrey, England, he first achieved fame by winning four 500cc motorcycle Grand Prix World Championships between 1956 and 1960. Transitioning to car racing, Surtees won the Formula 1 World Championship in 1964 driving for Ferrari, making him the only person to be a world champion in both sports. His versatility and competitive spirit set him apart as a motorsport icon. After retiring from racing, he remained actively involved in the sport, even forming his own F1 team, Surtees Racing Organization. Surtees passed away on March 10, 2017, but his legacy as a multi-disciplinary champion endures.
