Lando Norris confident: New F1 wing tests won't impact McLaren’s strong performance at Chinese GP
Formula 1 leader Lando Norris stated that new rear wing tests for the Chinese Grand Prix are not targeting McLaren and won't affect the reigning champions. The FIA introduced these stringent tests following the season-opening race in Australia, which Norris won convincingly.
"We don't have to change anything," Norris assured during a press conference at the Shanghai circuit. "Ours is fine. In fact, ours was probably too good and we probably are not pushing the limits enough, honestly. It's not directed at us; it’s directed at other teams."
McLaren dominated in Melbourne, with Norris securing pole position and nearly four-tenths of a second faster than Red Bull's Max Verstappen. Norris also recorded the race's fastest lap.
After a brief respite in Taiwan post-Melbourne, Norris acknowledged that while the car is performing well, it remains challenging to handle. "We know in certain conditions, like in the wettest conditions, Max was just as quick as us," he noted. "In drier conditions, we were better. It's about making the car more predictable and comfortable."
Norris emphasized ongoing improvements in collaboration with teammate Oscar Piastri. "Between Oscar and myself, there are things that we both comment on, which gives the team a clear direction on what to improve," he added. "Yes, the car's great, but we always want more."
Having won the last two races, Norris is already a strong contender for the title. Reflecting on the upcoming race, he said, "I'm hoping we can do better and it can be a bit easier. Expecting Ferrari to be more competitive."
Norris’s confidence remains high as McLaren aims to continue its winning streak in China, where he finished second to Verstappen last year.
