Jack Doohan to elevate his career with Formula 1 debut at Abu Dhabi, replacing Ocon at Alpine
Alpine has officially announced that future star Jack Doohan will be stepping into Esteban Ocon's cockpit for the upcoming Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. This strategic move, confirmed by the team on Monday, sets the stage for the 21-year-old Doohan to showcase his talent on one of motorsport's most distinguished circuits, Yas Marina, on December 8th.
Alpine boss Ollie Oakes, reflecting on the decision, shared with the press post-Qatar Grand Prix that introducing Doohan at this juncture aims to alleviate the jittery nerves rookies often face. "Get those butterflies gone now rather than next year in Australia," he remarked, pointing towards a smoother transition for Doohan into the 2025 Formula 1 season, where he's already slated as part of the Alpine roster.
The seat shuffle is part of a broader narrative, with Esteban Ocon, the 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix victor for Alpine, making a leap to Haas next season confirmed. The early switch facilitates Ocon to initiate testing for Haas in the post-race Yas Marina circuit test sessions, while Doohan gains invaluable experience with Alpine.
Alpine extended their gratitude towards Ocon for his pivotal contributions to the team, stating, "The team would like to thank Esteban for his time at the team and he will remain part of the team's history achieving the first win for Alpine in Formula 1. We wish Esteban the best for the future."
While direct remarks from Doohan or Ocon regarding this latest development were not disclosed, Ocon's earlier interactions with the media carried a tone of gratitude and bidding farewell to Alpine, signifying the end of his chapter with the team.
Jack Doohan, a prodigy emerging from motorsport royalty as the son of motorcycle racing legend Mick Doohan, has carved a promising path through the junior formulas. After aligning with the Red Bull driver academy from 2018 to 2021, he transitioned to the Alpine academy in 2022, underscoring his escalating career trajectory. Doohan's impressive performances, marked by a second-place finish in the 2021 Formula 3 championship and a third-place in the 2023 standings, have signalled his readiness for the pinnacle of auto racing.
As the Formula 1 fraternity gathers at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, all eyes will indeed be on Jack Doohan, whose debut is not just a personal milestone but a moment of anticipation for motorsport enthusiasts keen to witness the emergence of a new talent on the world stage.
