Colapinto to undergo medical evaluation following Vegas qualifying crash

Franco Colapinto's participation in the Las Vegas Grand Prix faces uncertainty as he awaits a medical evaluation following a severe crash during qualifying. The incident occurred in Q2, where Colapinto clipped the wall on the inside of Turn 16, sending his car crashing into the barrier at an acute angle with a force of 50G.

The crash was so impactful that it displaced the concrete barrier, causing a suspension of the session to facilitate repairs and clear the debris left by Colapinto's wrecked vehicle. Despite the severity of the crash, Colapinto was able to walk away from the incident.

A statement from Williams confirmed that Colapinto would need to pass a medical examination before being allowed to race. "During Qualifying Franco sustained a significant impact of over 50G, requiring a medical check up," a Williams representative stated. "An impact of this magnitude is obviously significant and severe and he will need to be evaluated again tomorrow before we will know whether he is clear to race. Franco's health is all that matters, and we are glad he is otherwise okay. We will provide further updates when we can."

This incident adds to Williams' recent woes, following extensive damage to its cars from three separate accidents at the Brazilian Grand Prix just three weeks ago. Colapinto, who has shown promise since stepping in for Logan Sargeant at the Dutch Grand Prix, managed to secure 14th on the grid for the upcoming race.
