Formula 1's governing body, the FIA, has imposed a combined fine of $1 million on Honda and Alpine for procedural breaches related to the 2023 cost cap for engine manufacturers. The announcement was made on Tuesday.

Honda, currently partnered with Red Bull but set to switch to Aston Martin in 2026, has been fined $600,000. Alpine, owned by Renault, faces a $400,000 penalty. The FIA had previously disclosed that both manufacturers had committed procedural breaches without exceeding the $140.4 million spending limit.

The fines were settled through an Accepted Breach Agreement (ABA), according to the FIA’s statement. Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) was found to have failed to file accurate reporting documentation for the relevant period, while Alpine Racing SAS had omitted essential information from their submission.

"Several required procedures had not been performed at all, and several other procedures had only been partially completed," the FIA stated. An updated report has since addressed these deficiencies.

Additionally, last month Renault announced their decision to cease F1 engine production after the next season for financial reasons. As a result, the Alpine team is expected to switch to Mercedes engines from 2026, though this deal has yet to be confirmed.

The penalties underline the FIA’s commitment to enforcing the cost cap regulations and maintaining financial integrity within the sport.
