Fernando Alonso gears up for his historic 400th Grand Prix: drivers pay tribute

As Fernando Alonso gears up for his record-breaking 400th Grand Prix appearance at this weekend's Mexico City Grand Prix, his fellow Formula 1 drivers have been effusive in their praise for the Spanish legend.

The two-time World Champion and a revered figure in motorsport, Alonso is the first driver in Formula 1 history to reach this remarkable milestone. His enduring presence on the grid continues to amaze fans and competitors alike, as he showcases his dedication and passion for the sport he first entered in 2001 with the Minardi team. Over the years, Alonso has raced with several prestigious teams, including Renault, McLaren, Ferrari, and now Aston Martin, where he remains as competitive as ever.

Alonso stands out in Formula 1 also as a driver who has had success in other series: A two-time winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans with Toyota, he is a world endurance champion and in 2017 led the Indianapolis 500 for 27 laps before his car's engine failed. In 2020 he finished 13th in the Dakar Rally.

Despite Alonso's absence from Thursday's media proceedings due to illness, tributes from his peers were numerous and heartfelt.
