Singapore GP: Pérez acclaims rookie Colapinto after stellar performance

In a memorable and competitive Singapore Grand Prix, Red Bull's Sergio Pérez heaped praise on Williams rookie Franco Colapinto, lauding the Argentine driver's performance and composure. Pérez highlighted that Colapinto "didn't put a foot wrong" throughout the intense race.
Colapinto made an immediate impact at the start, rapidly climbing the ranks. This bold move set the tone for the rest of his race and caught the attention of Pérez, who found himself trailing the Williams rookie.
Impressed by Colapinto's skill, Pérez took to the team radio to express his admiration: "He's very good. Difficult to pass, Colapinto," he remarked during the race. Despite being momentarily held up, Pérez acknowledged the exceptional defense mounted by the young driver.
Following the completion of the grand prix, Pérez elaborated on his earlier comments. "He did a fantastic race. He didn't put a foot wrong. It was very difficult to keep up with him at the time and it was just a difficult race," Pérez noted. He further detailed how he managed to overtake Colapinto through a strategic pit stop. "In the end, we managed to do the undercut on him, but that was the only one we could do."
Franco Colapinto has been a revelation since stepping in for Logan Sergeant at Williams. He immediately made an impact by out-qualifying teammate Alex Albon in his debut race and securing points during the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. His performance in Baku even earned him accolades from Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton.
Reflecting on Pérez's commendation, Colapinto expressed his appreciation. "I was trying to push. Checo is a super nice guy, and I grew up watching him racing in F1," Colapinto remarked. "Waking up early in Argentina and supporting him as a guy from Mexico, this was the closest to us. It was very nice to support him when I was little. And now it's even better to be racing against him."
Colapinto's rapid rise and skillful driving continue to turn heads in the paddock, positioning him as a promising talent to watch in the world of Formula 1.
