MONZA, Italy -- As the race for the F1 World Championship intensifies, Max Verstappen remains focused but unfazed by the potential of securing a fourth title this year. Despite holding a substantial 70-point lead over McLaren's Lando Norris, Verstappen asserts that the outcome won't alter his life significantly.

Reflecting on the past weekend's Dutch Grand Prix, where he finished 22 seconds behind Norris, Verstappen addressed concerns about McLaren's rising performance ahead of the Italian Grand Prix. "Listen, I just do the best I can," Verstappen stated. "If I win it or not, it's not going to change my life. Of course, I'd like to win, but with the car's performance, it's out of my hands."

Red Bull's Dutch Grand Prix performance left much to be desired, with Verstappen struggling due to handling issues exacerbated by strong winds and limited practice because of wet conditions. The team even reverted to a previous floor specification to diagnose performance inconsistencies, yet the results remained disheartening.

Verstappen downplayed the gravity of the setback, calling it "just not the best weekend for us for different reasons." He continued, "We couldn't get the car to work how we wanted it. The balance issues, compounded by the wind, made it very difficult."

Despite the challenges, Verstappen and the Red Bull team remain committed to improving their performance. “We're going to give it everything we have as a team to be more competitive,” Verstappen assured.

Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko termed the Zandvoort result "alarming," but the Dutch driver disagreed with the characterization. "I wouldn't call it a wake-up call," he remarked. "It was simply not our strongest weekend."

Verstappen's last victory was five rounds ago, a stark contrast to Red Bull's record-breaking 2023 season with 21 wins out of 22 races. This year, the team has secured seven victories from the first ten races. Addressing the expectations, Verstappen commented, "A season like last year is very unrealistic. But did I expect it to be like this? Not really. So now it's up to us to make it better. Everyone's working flat out."

As the F1 circus moves to Monza, Verstappen remains focused on consistency and optimization, keeping his ambitions high yet grounded. "Would I like to win more? Yes, of course. But it's about performing at our best and seeing where we land by the end of the season."

The Italian Grand Prix will be another test for Verstappen and Red Bull as they seek to reclaim their dominant form and inch closer to the championship title.
