McLaren locks in team principal Andrea Stella with multi-year contract extension

McLaren's Formula One team has secured Andrea Stella's leadership for the foreseeable future with a multi-year contract extension, the team announced on Thursday.

While the exact terms of Stella's new contract remain undisclosed, his continued presence at the helm is poised to further solidify McLaren's competitive standing. Stella, now 53, began his journey with McLaren in 2015 and ascended to the role of team principal in 2022. Under his guidance, McLaren has celebrated two grand prix victories, 18 podium finishes, and a sprint race win.

"It's a privilege to be part of the McLaren Formula 1 team, and I am honored to continue in my role as team principal," said Stella. "We've made great strides forward in the past year and a half and we still have a lot more work to do to consistently fight at the front of the grid, which poses an exciting challenge."

The current season has seen exceptional performances from McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, who collectively boast 10 consecutive podium finishes, including a remarkable one-two finish at the Hungarian Grand Prix on July 21. These achievements have positioned McLaren as formidable contenders against Red Bull for the world championship, currently trailing by only 42 points.

Additionally, both Norris and Piastri have secured their futures with McLaren by signing contract extensions, reflecting their commitment to the team's vision.

"His impact on McLaren F1 in his role as team principal has been profound, not only through our results on track and the trajectory of the team but also in his development of our culture and mindset," McLaren CEO Zak Brown stated. "With multi-year extensions already agreed with Lando, Oscar, and now Andrea, we can confidently continue on our quest to become world champions. We're all looking forward to the years to come under Andrea's leadership."

As F1 enthusiasts eagerly anticipate the resumption of racing on August 25 with the Dutch Grand Prix, McLaren's recent announcements have set the stage for an exhilarating continuation of the season.
