Kevin Magnussen to depart Haas after 2024 season

Haas confirms departure of long-serving driver; team seeks new line-up for 2025.
Kevin Magnussen will part ways with Haas F1 Team at the conclusion of the 2024 season, the team announced on Thursday.
Magnussen is Haas' longest-serving driver, having competed for the team from 2017 to 2020 before making a comeback in 2022. His tenure with Haas has been marked by several significant accomplishments, including scoring the team's only pole position at the 2022 Brazilian Grand Prix.
The Danish driver’s departure comes as Haas lines up its new roster for the upcoming season. The team has already secured Ferrari junior Oliver Bearman for one of its 2025 seats. According to reports, Haas is also close to finalizing a deal with Esteban Ocon, who is set to leave Alpine at the end of the current season.
Magnussen’s prospects for continuing his career in Formula 1 appear uncertain. Much depends on the decisions of other drivers, particularly Carlos Sainz, whose next move could influence opportunities for Magnussen and others. This situation is reportedly affecting Ocon's own transition to Haas, with further updates anticipated.
Expressing his thoughts on leaving the team, Magnussen stated, "I'd like to extend my thanks to everyone at MoneyGram Haas F1 Team — I'm proud to have raced for such a great team of people these last few years. In particular, I'd like to thank Gene Haas for his commitment to me, notably in bringing me back once again in 2022 when I thought, at that time at least, my time in Formula 1 had ended. I've enjoyed some great moments with this team — memories I'll never forget. While I'm looking forward to the next chapter of my racing career, I remain fully focused on giving everything I've got for the rest of 2024 with MoneyGram Haas F1 Team."
Aayo Komatsu, the Team Principal of Haas, also offered high praise for Magnussen. "I'd like to thank Kevin for everything he's given us as a team — both on and off the track," Komatsu said. "He's truly been a bedrock of our driver line-up over the years. Nobody's driven more races for us and we've had some memorable highlights together — not least a remarkable fifth place finish at the Bahrain Grand Prix in 2022 when Kevin returned to start his second spell with the team. He wasn't expecting to be driving a Formula 1 car that weekend, but he put in a remarkable performance that was a tremendous boost to the entire organization and once again showcased his own talents behind the wheel."
Magnussen's career highlights include an F1 podium on his debut with McLaren, but he has not replicated that result since. His stint with McLaren lasted only one season, after which he spent a year at Renault in 2016 before moving to Haas the next year.
As Magnussen gears up for his final races with Haas, both he and the team are preparing for what the future holds, with Haas looking to build on its new driver line-up for 2025.
