In an exciting update for Formula One fans, Miami and Austin will continue to feature sprint races in the 2025 season. The announcement comes as F1 confirmed the six venues that will adopt the alternative weekend format next year.

The selected venues include China, Miami, Belgium, Austin, Brazil, and Qatar. The significant change from this year's schedule is that Austria will no longer host a sprint weekend, as it makes way for Belgium.

This means that, similar to this year, three of the final six rounds of the championship will be sprint weekends. The sprint format, which has successfully engaged audiences, involves replacing the second practice session with sprint qualifying on Friday and exchanging the final practice session with a sprint race on Saturday. Meanwhile, the traditional Grand Prix qualifying sessions remain unchanged and take place on Saturday and Sunday.

Despite discussions earlier this year about possible changes to the format, the six sprint races for the 2025 season will adhere to the same regulations as in 2024. Each sprint race, being a third of the length of a standard grand prix, awards championship points to the top eight finishers in descending order: eight points for first place down to one point for eighth.

F1 has reported increased audience viewing figures for sprint sessions compared to the free practice sessions they replace. Notably, the entire 2023 U.S. Grand Prix sprint weekend saw an audience growth of 6% compared to the non-sprint 2022 U.S. Grand Prix weekend.

Max Verstappen clinched his third drivers' championship title during the Qatar sprint race last year, securing the championship with six grands prix still remaining.

F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali remarked, "The Sprint has been a great success for Formula One, bringing all our fans more action and racing on the track. We are seeing the proof of this in our audience data, fan attendance on Fridays, and from the promoters and partners."

Reflecting on the sport's milestone anniversary in 2025, Domenicali added, "As we prepare to celebrate our 75th anniversary in 2025, we will always honor our incredible history, but we must always be looking ahead, innovating, and improving to deliver the best for our growing and diverse fanbase. The sprint is a great example of bringing new elements to our sport in a way that is respectful of the championship, and I want to thank the six venues that will host the sprint in 2025 and look forward to those incredible events throughout the season."
