Pierre Gasly secures long-term future with Alpine, teammate uncertain
In a significant move for the Renault-owned team, Alpine has announced that Pierre Gasly will continue to represent them beyond 2025, having secured a contract extension. While the exact terms of the agreement were not disclosed, this decision underscores Alpine's commitment to building a stable lineup around Gasly.
Gasly, who joined Alpine over 18 months ago, expressed his enthusiasm for the extended partnership. "I feel very much at home at this great team," he remarked. "I enjoy being a real part of both the Formula One project and the wider Alpine Cars vision. While on-track it's been a challenging season so far, I remain faithful to the project and I am not going anywhere."
This development comes amidst a backdrop of change and restructuring within the team. Alpine has encountered a series of challenges, including a slow start to this season's championship and the departure of several senior figures within the organization over the past year. Nonetheless, the appointment of Bruno Famin as team principal, alongside the return of former team boss Flavio Briatore as an executive advisor, indicates a fresh strategic direction.
Gasly has expressed satisfaction with the changes. "I am happy with the changes made, the hard work, and the direction the team is taking," he noted. "There is a lot of potential in this team's personnel and resources. I'm excited for what is to come in the future and right now I'm focusing on the everyday details that we are putting in to improve our performances."
As for Gasly's teammate, the situation remains unresolved. Esteban Ocon has confirmed his departure from Alpine at the end of the current season. Among those being considered to replace him are reserve driver Jack Doohan and potentially Carlos Sainz, with discussions ongoing up until last weekend's Spanish Grand Prix.
Bruno Famin expressed optimism about Gasly's contract extension and the future of the team. "The extension of Pierre's contract with the team is very pleasing," Famin stated. "He is a driver with huge experience in Formula One and continues to show huge amounts of potential on-track. For Alpine as a brand, he is a great ambassador and we therefore look forward to continuing our collaboration. We have high ambitions this current season and we will work tirelessly to achieve those things. We will take our time in deciding Pierre's teammate and we are excited with the options we have on the table."
As Alpine looks to solidify its lineup and make strategic improvements, the focus remains on enhancing their current package to meet the high expectations they've set for the season.
