Adrian Newey open to new F1 challenge post-Red Bull departure

Adrian Newey, the illustrious Formula One design maestro, has revealed that he might consider joining another F1 team following his departure from Red Bull in 2025. Newey, who has spent nearly two decades with the team, announced earlier this month that he would be stepping down from his role as chief technical officer.
Widely revered as the pinnacle of F1 design, Newey's career boasts an impressive 13 drivers' championships and 12 constructors' championships, spanning three different teams.
In a recent interview with Oyster Yachts, Newey opened up about his thought process behind the decision. He cited several influences, including witnessing his father's loss of enthusiasm after retiring at 65, discussions with F1 heavyweights Bernie Ecclestone and Roger Penske, and his enduring passion for the sport. These factors have led him to contemplate a new chapter in his career. "As Forrest Gump said at the end of his long run, I feel a little bit tired at the moment but at some point I'll probably go again," Newey mused.
Newey, who has been a cornerstone of Red Bull's success, shared his reflections on his departure. "It was a difficult decision [to leave] because they'd been my family. I felt almost ... not paternal but a degree of responsibility. But equally the team is very mature, it's very organized. So that gives me an opportunity to be able to walk away, look at new challenges, new things and let the team fly. I'm sure it still can," he explained.
The 65-year-old also described his surprise at the public reaction to his exit. "The Miami Grand Prix was strange because I was there in a strategy function, hence being on the pit wall. But wasn't involved in any of the engineering decisions or engineering meetings. So I was being wheeled around for press basically. I never thought it would be big news to be perfectly honest, never really thought about it. To be in all the papers and on the telly [television] was almost a bit of a shock," Newey recounted.
As the sport awaits Newey's next move, his potential future involvement continues to be a topic of keen interest within the F1 community. His extensive track record and unmatched expertise ensure he remains a highly sought-after figure in Formula One.
