GP Qualifying: Verstappen tops Belgium qualifying, starts P11; Leclerc on pole

SPA-FRANCORCHAMPS, Belgium -- Max Verstappen secured the fastest time in Belgian Grand Prix qualifying with an unbeatable 1m 53.159s lap in his Red Bull, but a 10-place grid penalty for a power unit change means the Dutchman will start from P11, promoting Ferrari's Charles Leclerc to pole position.

Verstappen's dominant performance saw him finishing half a second ahead of Leclerc. Sergio Perez put his Red Bull in P3, while Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes claimed P4. McLaren's Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri secured P5 and P6 respectively, with George Russell of Mercedes close behind in P7.

Carlos Sainz earned P8 for Ferrari, Fernando Alonso went P9 in his Aston Martin, and Esteban Ocon closed out the top 10 for Alpine.

Alex Albon narrowly missed Q3, settling for P11 in his Williams. Pierre Gasly of Alpine, Daniel Ricciardo in the RB, and Kick Sauber’s Valtteri Bottas followed in P12, P13, and P14 respectively. Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll, despite an FP3 crash, managed P15.

Haas drivers Nico Hulkenberg and Kevin Magnussen had a lackluster outing, ending in P16 and P17. Yuki Tsunoda, set to start from the back due to an engine penalty, qualified P18. Williams’ Logan Sargeant and Kick Sauber’s Zhou Guanyu rounded out the grid in P19 and P20.
