SILVERSTONE, United Kingdom -- Lewis Hamilton secured a historic ninth victory at the British Grand Prix, marking his first win since the 2021 season. The Mercedes driver delivered a masterful performance at Silverstone, outmaneuvering his rivals and capitalizing on a critical pit stop to reclaim the lead and ultimately the win.

On the track, seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton secured first place with a time of 1:22:27.059, finishing ahead of Max Verstappen by 1.465 seconds and McLaren's Lando Norris by 7.547 seconds.

Hamilton, driving for Mercedes, executed a flawless race, navigating the 52 laps of the 5.891-kilometre Silverstone circuit with precision.

The race commenced with George Russell leading from the pole, but it was not long before Hamilton and the McLaren drivers, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, engaged in a riveting tussle for supremacy. The strategic pivot of the race arrived when drivers switched to intermediate tires, responding to the tricky conditions.

Hamilton's decision to pit for slick tires just a lap before Norris—who subsequently endured a slow pit stop—proved decisive. This move allowed Hamilton to snatch the lead, setting him on a path to victory. Despite a formidable late surge on hard tires by Max Verstappen, the Red Bull racer had to settle for second, as time ran out for a final push.

McLaren's Norris rounded out the podium, followed closely by teammate Piastri. A strong showing from Carlos Sainz landed him in fifth for Ferrari, ahead of Nico Hulkenberg who impressed with a sixth-place finish for Haas.

The race also saw credible performances from Aston Martin duo Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso, and points finishes for Alex Albon of Williams and Yuki Tsunoda of Red Bull. Meanwhile, notable frustrations were felt by Charles Leclerc and Sergio Perez, who both struggled with early tire strategies and car issues, finishing well below their expected positions.

George Russell was ultimately forced to retire from the race due to a water system failure. And a non-finish for Pierre Gasly due to a gearbox problem.

This victory not only signifies Hamilton's unmatched prowess at the British Grand Prix but also reasserts his contention in the championship race after a challenging start to the season.

The next race is in Hungaroring Circuit, Budapest, Hungary on July 21.
