The session, conducted under the constant threat of rain, saw most drivers opening their runs on medium tires. Max Verstappen briefly led the timesheets with a 1m 27.831s lap on mediums before switching to soft tires to regain the top spot, only to be bested by Norris.

Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll showed improved form for Aston Martin, hovering near the top of the timesheets at various points. Nico Hulkenberg delivered a strong P4 for Haas, while Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton rounded out the top six for Ferrari and Mercedes, respectively.

Verstappen settled for seventh, followed by Carlos Sainz in eighth and Stroll in ninth. George Russell completed the top ten for Mercedes, with Alonso just missing out in P11.

Valtteri Bottas ended in P12 for Kick Sauber, with Alex Albon in P13 for Williams. Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon of Alpine took 14th and 15th, respectively, with Gasly set to start Sunday's race from the back due to new power unit penalties.

Yuki Tsunoda finished 16th for RB, while Williams' Logan Sargeant, Kick Sauber’s Zhou Guanyu, Daniel Ricciardo in the RB, and Haas’s Kevin Magnussen filled the remaining spots.

As the teams analyze their data, all eyes will be on the third and final practice on Saturday, followed by the crucial qualifying session later in the day.
